There’s something to be said for restaurants that know how to cater to families… a colouring sheet or two, a few toys and friendly staff (not to mention some highchairs and a bit o’ plastic cutlery) make the world of difference when eating out with children. Determined to uncover the best dining spots out there, we’ve chomped our way around town and spoken to plenty of mamas-in-the-know to bring you our Ultimate Guide to Easy Weekend Suppers in Singapore! Pick up those forks mamas and let’s eat!

Brussel Sprouts
Whether you set up sticks at their Robertson Quay location or head East so the kids can roll around on the grass out front, Brussel Sprouts has the art of family friendly dining down to a tee. Their signature beer and mussels keep parents happy, while the kiddos eat free on weekends and public holidays. Psst… these guys are also at Quayside Isle too if you fancy a meal with a view.

Café Melba
While service can be a tad on the patchy side, all is forgiven once mama spies the massive grassy space and scooter friendly footpaths this Western eatery offers (with a jumping castle on weekends too!). Tuck into a pizza or burger, order yourself something cold and kick back while the kids run wild. They don’t take reservations though so roll up early if you want to avoid a nag-inducing wait.

Casa Verde
The best casual dining spot within the Botanic Gardens, Casa Verde is always packed to the rafters on weekends and for good reason! Open all day (early dinner here we come!) and with take away options perfect for picnic playdates, their little-bit-of-everything menu is a crowd pleaser. Bring the scooters too so your little speed demons can pick up the pace in the open space out the front.

Charly T's at Katong - View of Main Dining Hall

Charly T’s
A dedicated kids’ area with television, colouring sheets and supervised crafts (on select weekends every month) gives this East Coast eatery the big thumbs up for a casual weekend meal. Psst… order the rotisserie chicken whilst you’re there — we hear it’s some of the best around.

Da Paolo Pizza Bar
Wander through Chip Bee Gardens early in the evening on a weekend and you’re bound to see loads of mamas and papas seated outside at this popular pizza joint, with offspring eagerly tucking into a slice or two. This incredibly chilled resto offers highchairs, friendly staff and pleasant surrounds… and with The Daily Scoop just a short toddle away, it’s the perfect way to finish off an evening of munching!

Epicurious
Bring the scooters and let the kids rack up some serious speed on the banks of the Singapore River, while you order classic comfort food from the friendly chefs at Epicurious. While they don’t open until 6pm for dinner, all is forgiven when you see just how fam-friendly the whole area is on the weekends, as kids happily play nearby.

Food for Thought
We couldn’t talk kid-friendly dining without mentioning our buddies at Food for Thought at the Botanic Gardens now could we? A cavernous space with oodles of room for strollers, stacks of highchairs, colouring sheets, a separate kids’ menu and their very own playground right out the front… shall we go on? Perhaps only to mention their ice-cold tap beer and finger-licking good burgers for the ‘rents we think.

Genki Sushi
For a meal with a fun difference, let the little ones order their sushi dinner via iPad for delivery by airplane or automobile! Transported by conveyor belt, kids can clamber across the table to snag their sushi and happily chow down on their bite sized goodies.

GRUB
An afternoon spent building sandcastles, bike riding and splashing around in the water play areas of Bishan Park can only mean one thing for little ones… hunger! Keep small tummies topped up with a bite at GRUB — the super friendly, inner-park bistro, with highchairs for tots, loads of space for pram-bound babies and a comfort food inspired menu that’ll satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.

Hai Di Lau Hot Pot
Where waiting is half the fun, this super popular Sichuan restaurant in Clarke Quay provides a small play room for restless rugrats to romp around in, as well as free manicures (and snacks!) for the mamas while they wait in line! We’d probably call ahead to book a table though as waiting for too long with tots in tow is never that much fun.

Huber’s Butcher
Tucked in a corner of Dempsey, this Swiss Butcher and Deli doesn’t just do take-out, you can dine in too! Choose from kid-pleasing Swiss faves like Veal Sausage and Rosti, and pick up some yummy swiss choccies for the journey home. Delish… plus the kiddos can get themselves into a flap watching the birds in the nearby aviary.

Hoshi Japanese Restaurant
For no fuss Japanese dining, where the kids can play on the huge outdoor playground while you dig in to sushi rolls and sake, head west to IMM shopping mall and seek out this affordable resto… your tempura loving tots won’t be disappointed!

Jamie’s Italian
Overlooking the water towards Sentosa, Jamie’s very own eatery in Singers knows how to serve scrummy food that kids love and that parents are happy to feed their offspring (read: fresh and healthy!). With super cool viewfinders to view the kids’ menu through, plus colouring sheets, stickers and a laid back vibe, this is one Italian restaurant you’ll return to again and again.

So much more than just great coffee and fabbo brunch items, Kith also serves a pretty mean dinner menu to compliment their chilled waterside location on Sentosa. Snag a table outside so the kiddies can roam along the boardwalk or play with the bucket of toys while you sip a cool drink and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

Marche (Somerset)
While it might not have the fanciest of food around, Marche ticks all the right boxes for kid-friendly dining with its colouring books, small play area and tot-friendly kids’ menu. Best to make a reservation in advance though mama (it can be a bit squeezy on the weekends) as the word is already out on this one!

Osteria Mozza
If you feel like pushing the boat out for a fancy-pants dining experience with the fam, Osteria Mozza serves up a mean dish of pasta (ask for a plain pomodoro sauce for the kiddos) and provides colouring pens and a warm welcome for tinies. If you’re looking for something a little more casual, just pop next door to the pizzeria to munch on a warm slice from the wood-fired oven.

PS Café Petit
Hop, skip and jump from a kiddie play session at the fab playground tucked away in the low-rise flats on Kim Pong Road (Tiong Bahru) to a casual Sunday evening bite at this cute-as-a-button pizza place and you’ll keep the whole family happy! If mama wants something a bit healthier, opt for a salad or a panini instead, and wash it all down with a cold glass of san pellegrino.

Real Food (Killiney)
Little bookworms love a healthy meal at this River Valley gem, with their lovely range of kids books for little ones to browse while they wait for their veggie-laden meals to appear. Mama can stop for a bit of browsing afterwards too at the in-store grocery, music and book stations… hurrah!

Red Star Dim Sum Restaurant
This authentic dim sum joint, where the pushcarts of yesteryear still rattle around piled high with baskets of siew mai, chee cheong fun (rice rolls) and prawn dumplings, is a great spot for a bit of finger-licking good dining with the fam. Wait staff are kid-friendly and happy for munchkins to move around a bit, however they don’t take reservations for dinner so rock up early if you want any hope of avoiding a queue!

Roosevelt’s Diner & Bar
When you’ve had enough by 4:30pm and just want the kids fed and in bed, turn to Roosevelt’s and their all day dining menu to get them full and out the door before the sound goes down. Drawing boards, crayons and highchairs make your family meal that much more enjoyable.

This casual Quayside Isle Italian resto isn’t necessarily the best nosh on the block, but with outdoor tables under a shaded canopy, the boats in the harbour to admire, and a little play area outside for the littlies, mama can sip some vino al fresco and feel pretty darn pleased with herself. Psst… You’ll need to reserve the outdoor tables on weekends.

Vegan Burg (The Grandstand)
Don’t let the name deter you mama, this purely vegan dining spot still has burgers and chips on the menu (albeit with no meat!) that pack a tasty punch. Their cosy space also has plenty of toys for busy tots to play with and they also host a toy swap programme where you can bring in your gently used toys to exchange for something new… sounds like a win-win to us!

Wawawa: Bistro by the Reservoir
Catch a breeze at this sit-back-and-relax bistro on the banks of Bedok Reservoir, while your kiddies muck about in the little play area out the front as you sip a cold frothy one. Right near the Forest Adventure Ropes Course (hint hint mama!) chow down on German inspired comfort food as you relax in green surrounds.
