Between preschool, play dates and the general busyness of life with a 3 year old, any well-laid plans I had in the past to visit the newly renovated Fidgets kept getting shelved. But with a gloomy sky threatening rain, and a determination to get out of our we’ve-been-here-so-many-times-we-know-the-menu-off-by-heart regular haunts, I decided it was time to make the effort and head towards (the former) Turf City.
Now Fidgets is not new by any means (mamas with active littlies will have spent their fair share of hours at this huge indoor play centre), but with the recent redevelopment of Turf City into ‘The Grandstand’, Fidgets had been earmarked for renovation – and what a renovation it has been!
If Fidgets wasn’t quite big enough before, well now, it is huge! I was actually quite surprised (after we finally made our way up there) at just how much nicer it is now. It’s bright and bold and captures kid’s attention with its colourful rebranding. There’s now a dedicated craft area, a brand new kid’s baking kitchen, and a massive café (with a stack of magazines for mama!), in addition to their ‘old’ soft play structures.
Fidgets has kept the same giant indoor soft play structure as before and for my active preschooler it still proved to be a big hit. Much time was spent climbing, sliding and crawling through tunnels – “mama watch me!” There was plenty of room for kiddies to just run and much like before it was pretty wild as the clock ticked towards 12 o’clock (there was a party on the same day we were there however and before the guests went off for cake time the play structure was packed!).
Mamas with really little ones will welcome the fact that the baby and toddler play area is now totally separate from the big play area – there’s no threat of the big kids trampling over your babies! There is more space for the wee ones to crawl too and it is right next to the café – hello coffee time! They also do a rather impressive range of food for youngsters, with toasted sandwiches, quesadillas, and mini pizzas to tempt hungry tots (and encourage mama to stay and play that little bit longer).
The most unexpected surprise for this mama however was the inclusion of a brand new runway for mini fashionistas! It runs straight down the middle of the new café, so it was quite amusing watching the kiddies walk down the new “Star Studio” runway.
Our verdict? The new Fidgets is an active child’s dream play centre — there’s heaps of activities to keep kids busy and the space is so much bigger and brighter. It also scores bonus points for its well-stocked café for caffeine dependant parents.
Getting there: For newbies to this play centre, it is not exactly the easiest to find. You need to head into the new PasarBella on the bottom floor of The Grandstand and walk riiiiiiiiight to the back. Tucked away in the very back corner of PasarBella is a lift (number 2) that will take you up to the third floor — it is quite a long walk for little legs, so best to bring the stroller if you have toddlers who tire easily (or tend to be rather uncooperative).
Sassy Mama Tip: Don’t forget the socks – they are still compulsory for everyone! Much better to bring your own pair than have to fork out the extra cash on Fidgets branded socks.
