Strangers Reunion has spruced up their digs and perked up their menu with some wholesome dishes in line with co-owner and World Siphon Coffee Champion, Ryan Tan’s new personal healthy direction
New on the Melbourne styled cafe’s brunch menu, both weekdays and weekends 9am – 5pm, is the Salmon & Kale ($19.90) – crispy skinned pan-seared salmon with organic locally-sourced kale served with poached eggs, salmon roe and home-made hollandaise dressing and the Strangers Smoked Salmon ($17.90), of poached eggs, with hazelnut béarnaise sauce, walnut crumble and feta. The dish replaces the more common ingredient of cold sliced smoked Salmon with a whole fillet of mesquite house smoked salmon, making a much meatier and flavourful dish. Come in a group and order up the Honey Mustard Sweet Potato Chips ($12.90) in lieu of the usual truffle fries, and you won’t be disappointed with the huge bowl of purple crisps slathered in honey mustard dressing.
A personal favourite is Crabcake Reunion ($18.90), a pretty dish of a thick crab cake piled with poached egg, ikura and avocado with ribboned asparagus.
Superfood Bowls completed the health trend additions – Coconut Chia Pudding ($11.90), Acai Smoothie Bowl ($$11.90), and an Avocado Smoothie Bowl ($11.90), beautifully decorated with nuts, seeds, granola and fruit, all ready for Instagram.
Hit these new dishes up with some caffeine to complete the Melbourne experience: their signature Magic ($5.50) – a double ristretto topped with milk – apparently this is the magical ratio of coffee to milk, or sip on the cold version, White Magic ($6.90), made with fresh espresso shots and milk, then bottled and chilled.
