A Classy Thai Buffet Affair at Blue Jasmine

From surprisingly delicious blue rice (!) to fresh salads and desserts, Blue Jasmine at Park Hotel Farrer Park gets it right with their Thai Ramadan buffet

Nestled in the Farrer Park precinct, Park Hotel Farrer Park is not only known for its gorgeous loft-like rooms, but is also home to Halal-certified Thai restaurant Blue Jasmine. Catch the lift to the fifth floor and you’ll be immediately impressed by the spacious and partially-sheltered outdoor seating shared with the hotel’s spacious pool.

The restaurant is decked out in plush leather seats, beautifully patterned floor tiles and a really cosy ambience overall. But was the food equally up to standard? I spent an evening at the Ramadan buffet to test it out!

Blue Jasmine serves up the best of Southern Thai and Esarn cuisine, and for Ramadan they’ve curated a special buffet menu with a wide selection of dishes inspired by traditional flavours and Thailand’s bustling street food culture. What caught my eye was the steamed blue jasmine rice! A signature in the Blue Jasmine menu, it went perfectly with all the other savoury dishes such as Green Chicken Curry, Beef Rendang and a variety of seafood dishes. The Tom Yum Soup with Seabass is also one of my faves – I loved how perfectly spicy it was, but that could be due to my years of learning how to tolerate chilli… tread with caution if you’re not used to spicy food, mama!

Don’t miss the Thai salad bar in the corner between the soup and desserts, mama. You’ll find Thai Papaya Salad, Yum Mushroom Salad and Larb Spicy Minced Chicken and Herbs Salad in the mix, all great for starting you off on the buffet before moving onto the heavier dishes.

The desserts were Nonya and Thai kueh heaven! Sporting faves such as putri salat, Pandan Chiffon Cake and ondeh-ondeh (which I unfortunately missed out on because they were all snapped up so quickly!) alongside original Blue Jasmine desserts like Simmering Banana in Coconut Milk and Mango Sticky Rice with Jackfruit, I found myself going back to the dessert table more than once. Your little ones will also be happy to know there’s an ice cream machine dispensing the softest gelato-like vanilla ice cream, which you can then adorn with your own choice of toppings like chendol, jackfruit, M&Ms and various sauces. Drinks come in the forms of thirst-quenching Bandung and Iced Lemongrass Tea (sooo good), while iced water and hot drinks are also served.

The hotel has also converted two of their rooms on the 14th floor into dedicated prayer rooms for ladies and gents respectively for this Ramadan period, stocked up with prayer mats and ladies’ prayer garb laundered daily.

At just $38++ per person, I actually see myself coming back here before the buffet wraps up on 24 June and resumes its a la carte menu! The selection was just enough to not make you feel overwhelmed as I know of some buffet spreads that tend to go down that route. Everything tasted aroi mak mak, I highly recommend!

Blue Jasmine Ramadan Buffet available now till 24 June 2017, 6:30pm – 10:30pm daily. For reservations or enquiries, call (+65) 6824 8851 or email [email protected]
