Bayswater Kitchen: Seafood with a View

Dining at Keppel Bay at kid friendly Bayswater Kitchen, a great new seafood restaurant complete with ping pong table, fusball for the kids

Bayswater Kitchen is a name that has been cropping up a lot lately – from making Editor’s Pick in last month’s Foodie News Flash to being one of the hot spots where you can catch views of the NYE fireworks! Bayswater Kitchen is the latest concept by The Privé Group and boasts a prime position on Keppel Bay overlooking the bling yachts. Come evening, the twinkling lights and the alfresco seating make this one of the loveliest new spots for dinner.

Cuisine

Helming the kitchen, is chef de cuisine Jack Allibone (formerly sous-chef at award-winning seafood restaurant Angler in London). The starters are a highlight – we would almost prefer to order a bunch of these to share than plump for a main. From freshly shucked French and Irish Oysters ($33/6 or $6 each) to Whipped Cod’s Roe with shards of Crisp Flatbread ($9), Japanese Mackerel Tartare with Oyster and Sea Herbs ($19). Other signatures include the Beer Battered Cod Fish & Chips $19 (let’s just say if you’re expecting British pub fare, think again (there aren’t any chips as you know them, in sight), and the delicious Chargrilled Octopus with smoked Roe, Gremolata and Borlotti Beans ($22).

For mains, a selection of meats and seafood of which, the mega order of the Fisherman’s Feast ($38 per person) is a showstopper of a dish featuring handmade Linguine with Lobster, Prawns, Mussels and Seasonal Fish. And for dessert there’s Raspberry Surprise with Raspberry Sorbet and Almond Curd or the Chocolate Bar with Hazelnut Praline and Banana Ice Cream ($12). If you are here midweek for a midday meal there’s a changing lunch set too (2 selections $28 and 3 selections $32).

Activities

Bayswater Kitchen is nautical themed with a boat-inspired bar, maritime striped cushions on the sofas, plus a room at the back sporting a beautiful ping pong table and a foosball table. So. Much. Fun! Big kids can hide here between courses while the parents take on the serious task of deciding which dish to order – with a glass of Pimms ($9) in hand of course (tough job, we know, but someone’s gotta do it).
