Wait, so what kind of store is it? There’s a new genre of retail spaces mama, and they’re called multi-hyphenated lifestyle stores. It’s when a shop doesn’t particularly fit a straightforward theme, but instead checks all the boxes we never knew we needed in one place – until now!

From café-cum-workout spaces to kids edutainment clubs with co-work spaces and even bars with their own cigar room, these are the lifestyle stores you need to check out STAT.

Mahota is a vibrant marketplace that tantalises all the senses in one 20,000ft² space. In one corner you’ll find a farm-to-table restaurant serving Italian-Asian contemporary fare, while on the other side of the space sits a yoga & fitness studio, DIY woodworking space, TCM clinic and an organic market!

Club Coco Nut has just arrived at Tanglin Mall! This multi-disciplinary edutainment space is for children aged 6 months (accompanied) to 6 years+ and their parents too. Members can mix and match in-house kids’ classes with sessions from outside providers like Gym4Tots by Sport4Kids, so there will be plenty on offer from Karate, Multi-sport and Yoga (for kids and adults) to music lessons,  Mandarin play groups and Mandarin Speech and Drama classes by iYU Learning Centre. Club Coco Nut partners include Yoga 4 All, The Magic Apron and Our Music Studio!

This family space boasts four main areas (including a co-work spot too) for its members to enjoy.

– The Social Space is a common area with access included in all memberships.  Kids can be dropped off to enjoy inventive play at the multi-activity Mutable tables plus there’s a climbing wall, Peranakan playhouse, Magnatile wall and reading corner.  All the while mum and dad can grab a coffee from the pantry or come back in an hour (for a fee) while they run some errands.
– The “Move” Space is a room free of obstructions where children can partake in gym for tots, multi-sport, hip-hop dance, yoga, karate, mandarin drama, english drama and more.
– The “Create” Space is a room where children can enjoy art exploration, sensory workshops, painting, arts and crafts, food discovery and more.
-The “Quiet” Space is where mums and dads can catch up on emails or come work for the day (for a fee).  This is a child-free zone.

Once you make Benjamin Barker Cafe your regular coffee run though, expect nothing but the best dapper brekkies and brunches! Located just below the Benjamin Barker menswear store at Cineleisure, the swanky Benjamin Barker Café complements BB’s handsome, gentlemanly theme with its classic comfort fare, all-day breakfast and weekend brunches, with cocktail offerings once the sun goes down. Head up to the retail space after your cuppa and grab the hubs a fancy tie or two!

When entering In Good Company you may think it’s just a typical fashion store, but walk a little further in and you’ll be greeted by the wafting smell of cupcakes and coffee in the air – wait, is that Plain Vanilla Bakery? Yup! Local label In Good Company has decked out their space with a little cafe corner so you can stop for a cuppa (of the coffee and cake variety) while you shop for chic, functional clothing in amazing fabrics. On our last visit here we’ve even picked up some quirky accessories and other little knick knacks, such as eco-friendly soy candles and perfumes from regional labels.

Keepers at National Design Centre is well known for being a one-stop shop for multiple local artisan brands under one roof. From jewellery by Sassy Mama fave Carrie K. to makeup, skincare and even food, the variety here is endless! Occasionally, Keepers also hosts kid-friendly events celebrating local creatives – their Playground of Infinite Happiness was a hit and we’re already keeping our eyes peeled for the next one!

Café, deli, bakery, cooking studio… The Providore is the place for anyone who adores food! Tuck into their yummy contemporary fare at the beautiful café, shop for artisanal cheese at the deli and take home freshly-baked bread and pastries. The cooking studio offers hands-on small group cooking classes conducted by resident and guest instructors. They’ve even held cooking classes for kids!

Nonya flavours come to life at Rumah Bebe! In the front of this Peranakan heritage home is a little cafe with traditional Nonya snacks and tea. It also offers a collection of traditional yet stylish Peranakan kebayas and gorgeously beaded shoes, along with Peranakan ceramics that are some of our favorite Singapore souvenir gifts for friends who live abroad. You can even pick up some ready-made sambal!

Delicious coffee, eco-friendly cleaning products, socially conscious homewares and a green nail salon all in once place? Yes, please! You will be tempted to while away many an afternoon at this incredible multi-concept space on Kreta Ayer Road on the outskirts of Chinatown. Not only is the cafe a beautifully designed space – think cool and laid-back Balinese dream – but it also encompasses everything that is great about fair trade, as it’s both eco-friendly and socially conscious. Perhaps our favourite feature is the Refillery Station, where you can bring in your own bottles or purchase in-store and fill up on reasonably priced and environmentally friendly personal care and home cleaning products.

The Spot is one of the latest wining and dining spots to open up at Marina One slap bang in the CBD. The space is huge yet cleverly divided into nooks. The bar takes centre stage, then there’s the restaurant, an award-winning wine retailer 1855 The Bottle Shop, whisky marque The Macallan and a cigar room if the inclination takes you to light up a hand-rolled Cuban.

While this is a club and not a lifestyle store, we do think several of Straits Clan’s cool features deserve a shoutout. Located on Bukit Pasoh Road, the club is made up of four storeys of living, eating, work and play space. The first floor houses the famous Clan Cafe, an all-day lounge serving nourishing bowls and brews by day and a selection of Asian bar bites and craft beers by night. Level 2 and the attic are both event spaces (we’ve visited a couple times and wow, it’s gorgeous), while Level 3 marries work and wellness with their meeting rooms, boutique gym and spa (!).

From art to music to food to drink, Telok Ayer Arts Club has it all. Don’t be fooled by its humble name, because this multi-use venue is bursting with creative buzz! It’s positioned as a fresh take on Singapore’s beloved community centre, with a space to showcase every creative individual’s work and performances in a non-gallery like setting. On the food front, expect comforting dishes and quirky drinks that won’t disappoint.
