All you moms in Shanghai, this one’s for you! Here’s the first in a series of regular dispatches from one of our Sassy Mamas in Shanghai.
Before we left for a summer in the US, M was an 8 month old and just beginning to crawl. I could give her an empty paper towel roll and know that she’d be fascinated at least long enough for me to check my email. Now she’s nearly 11 months, and her days of being content at home with a cardboard tube and a Tic-Tac box are pretty much over.
So in an attempt to entertain (and hopefully wear out) my little ball of energy, last Friday M and I checked out Jitterbugs, a movement and music class for little ones. The classes are divided by age and location – our class met at 10:45 at a conveniently located little gym in the French Concession.
We arrived to a room full of babies and toddlers, each with an accompanying mom (or Ayi), and sang and danced our way through 45 minutes of totally tolerable kids music. And to my delight, after all that maraca shaking and flirting with other babies, M was happy and exhausted, napped for ages, and I got a little chill time. We’ll definitely be back.
