There’s much more to toddler education than just traditional preschool, mama!
Whether you’re looking for a high-quality, bilingual preschool, want to provide your kiddo with a weekly fun and educational play environment, or are looking to boost your child’s language skills in preparation for primary school, British Council has got a preschool programme to suit your needs, mama!
As the world authority in teaching English language, British Council has long been the go-to place for mamas in search of high quality education. Their years of experience in Singapore, combined with their full suite of integrated preschool offerings tailored to every child’s specific needs, mean you can be confident that your little one’s learning is in good hands.
Here’s a rundown of their full range of offerings:
British Council Preschool
With a unique curriculum that draws on the best preschool practices from both the United Kingdom and Singapore, British Council Preschool is holistic, balanced, and hands-on. There’s a special focus on language and literacy, but equal importance is placed on purposeful play to give little learners ample space to explore, discover and learn through an inquiry-based approach.
What’s more, the focus on language extends beyond just English (which is of course their bread and butter!) with the preschool’s fab bilingual Mandarin programme, in which two teachers – one English speaker and one Mandarin speaker – are present in the classroom throughout the day. Every British Council Preschool teacher holds professional teaching qualifications and is up to date on the latest research, techniques and technologies, all with the aim of developing the whole child academically and socially in a bilingual environment.
Located in Tampines in the East, British Council Preschool offers both a morning and afternoon session, five days a week, for children from age 3.
Learning Time with Shaun & Timmy
Tiny tykes across Singapore from the age of 2 have responded with delight to this innovative new approach to English learning! British Council’s collaboration with Oscar® award-winning animators Aardman bring together the UK’s world-leading Early Years Foundation Stage methodology with the beloved film and TV characters Shaun the Sheep and Timmy, creating a fun and dynamic way for littlies to learn English successfully.
Through fun, play-based activities like storytelling, songs, music, movement, arts & crafts, and unique videos, kiddos naturally learn English and pronunciation, setting them up well for school and life. (And we’ve gotta be honest, anything to help us better understand what our toddlers are saying is fine by us!).
Learning Time with Shaun & Timmy is a once-a-week programme specially designed for 2 to 6 year-olds, and is offered at I12 Katong on East Coast Road.
Pre-school Enrichment
Children can develop their literacy skills, speak with confidence and prepare for Primary 1 in British Council’s Pre-school enrichment classes, which use the Jolly Phonics system to encourage them to sound out words when reading, apply punctuation rules, and even form written sentences on their own in an interactive and enjoyable environment to build on what they’re learning in school. Nursery level courses focus on confidence building, socialisation, phonics and language/literacy skills, while Kindergarten enrichment courses help kiddos learn high-frequency words, develop comprehension and writing skills and become independent readers.
Offered at five different locations across the island, the Nursery and Kindergarten classes are taught by internationally qualified teachers. There’s also a Speech & Drama class offered at the Kindergarten level that boots concentration, helps coordination and motor skills, and lets kiddos learn to communicate with more confidence and expression.
So whatever your situation, mama, British Council has a programme to fit your little one’s learning needs. Want to know more? Leave your contact details here!
Every single child’s educational needs are different; whether you’re little one’s raring to go to preschool, or they need a play-based setting to get used to be around other children, British Council has you seriously sorted!
