If you’re after a different kind of afternoon tea, give the limited-time Peranakan tea at InterContinental Singapore’s Lobby Lounge a look, mama!
If you haven’t already heard mama, our beloved Sassy Mama Editor, Kate, is due to bring her second child into the world this September! We’ve been so excited to welcome the new addition to the Sassy family that we couldn’t help but throw Kate a surprise baby shower at none other than the swanky InterContinental Singapore. More specifically, The Lobby Lounge for afternoon tea!
Classic Afternoon Tea: Straits Heritage, The Lobby Lounge’s latest afternoon tea special, is made up of three tiers of iconic Afternoon Tea delights alongside creations inspired by Straits-Chinese (aka Peranakan) cuisine to commemorate Singapore’s 52nd birthday.
There was a fantastic mix of savouries and sweets. Perfect for those who aren’t daring enough to dive headfirst into Peranakan fare, Straits Heritage allows you to sample modern renditions of old school classics, like Chilli Crab Sandwiches, Ayam Buah Keluak Crostini (tender chicken braised in tamarind and buah keluak nut paste on crispy grilled toast), Otak Quiche, and a particularly popular hit around the table, Rendang Chicken Mantou Bun.
Accompanying the delicious savouries were seven luscious desserts. We started off with the yummy Lemon and Milo scones and loved the variety of jams it came with. Next on the list were Ang Ku Kueh, Banana Genoa Tart (caramelised banana, coconut cream and sponge cake in a vanilla tart), Green Tea & Chocolate Pralines, Chendol Agar Jelly, Pulut Hitam Chiffon Cake and another hot favourite, Ondeh Ondeh Cake!
Drinks-wise, we loved the wide selection of loose-leaf teas and coffee on offer. There’s also the locally-inspired Blue Ginger cocktail, a refreshing rum-based cocktail featuring Galangal, Gula Melaka and Kaffir Lime for that extra zing.
It was pure bliss getting to enjoy a few hours off work mid-week to chill in the airy, light-filled lounge – complete with live music! Despite sitting right in front of the musician and his sound system, we had no trouble at all hearing each other while chatting and gushing over baby shower gifts.
We had a fab time at The Lobby Lounge and highly recommend! In the meantime, we’d also love to give Kate a bittersweet sendoff as she embarks on her motherhood journey with Baby #2 – we’ll miss you, Kate, and can’t wait to cop some snuggle time with the baby boy!
Classic Afternoon Tea: Straits Heritage is available at The Lobby Lounge from 7 August to 19 November 2017, 2pm to 5pm daily. The three-tiered set is priced at $78 for two persons, inclusive of a fine selection of loose-leaf teas and coffee; and at $108 for two persons, inclusive of two flutes of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut Champagne or Blue Ginger cocktail, and a fine selection of loose-leaf teas and coffee.
