This Lunar New Year, scurry down to Singapore’s wildlife parks and join the rodent family to usher in the Year of the Rat.
Kick off the celebrations at Singapore Zoo with the Gambian pouched rat, a sizeable rodent native to Africa that sports cheek pouches for storing food. At River Safari, meet the agouti, a rodent from the rainforests of Central and South America, as well as the world’s largest rodents, the capybaras, and ring in the new year together with prosperity greetings.
As the sun sets, Night Safari’s northern Luzon giant cloud rat, a large rodent endemic to the Philippines takes the spotlight with its distinct grey coat. Swoop over to Jurong Bird Park, too, and spot the speckled mousebird, a songbird named after its unique mouse-like features including a brown plumage and long tail which make up half its length.
