Science Centre Singapore’s STEAM Festival is back with exciting activities for kids to uncover the science behind their senses, sleep, and dreams!
Mums, we’ve all had those endless bedtime battles, with our little ones firing off questions while we ourselves are half-asleep! From the playful “Mama, will I dream about flying with dragons again?” to the head-scratchers like “Why can I smell flowers but not rocks?” and “Why do we close our eyes when we sleep?”
Good news, because Science Centre Singapore’s STEAM Festival is back, and this year, kids can join Rex the Dinosaur and explore the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) concepts behind sleep, our five senses and dreams through fun, hands-on activities.
The perfect blend of fun and educational activities
Running over three exciting weeks, STEAM Festival 2024: The Secret Life of Rex has something for the whole family to enjoy. Rex is a little dinosaur with big dreams, and with the exciting lineup in store at the STEAM Festival, you’ll get to join Rex and venture into his secret life with fun, hands-on experiences like optical illusions. One highlight is Rex’s Perceptual Playground, where your little ones can create their own illusion crafts and watch animations come to life. Don’t forget to snap lots of photos at the stunning Whimsical Walkway, where more optical illusions await!
In Rex’s Dreamscape, kids can chat with Rex about the wonders of dreams, have a blast at the magical infinity mirror portal, and even battle nightmares in a pillow-throwing game. Parents can join in the fun too with a giant puzzle! At Nighty Night Neurons!, your little ones can scan, and watch their creations come to life in the seascape of dreams projection.
The excitement doesn’t stop there because there’s even more hands-on fun at KidsSTOP™ gallery, with timed programmes and themed experiences. And don’t forget to swing by The Rex Factory, where they can purchase and customise their very own Rex plushie to take home as a souvenir!
There’s something for everyone
STEAM Festival 2024 also features storytelling sessions and Parent-Child weekend workshops, perfect for parents who want to join the fun! Kids aged 4 to 8 can enjoy Colourful Illusions, where they can create their own thermochromic coasters, and Peek-a-boo Science Surprise, where they’ll whip up “vanishing” potions and design a stationery holder with paint that magically disappears with heat!
For the littlest ones aged 2 to 3, The Sleep Lab offers a chance to craft electrical circuits with dough and design night lights!
