Like many people left in Singapore during the recent haze craze, I found myself becoming increasing stressed as the pollution showed little signs of abating. Whilst the haze took well over a week to improve, my state of tension only took an afternoon to clear as I sought a quiet space and rare moment of me time at the Grand Hyatt’s Damai Spa.

Offering patrons a sanctuary against the noise and bustle of busy Orchard Road, the Damai Spa exudes a sense of calm and serenity the minute you walk through the door. It was a welcome change from the pollution outside and only took me a minute (or two) to shift gears from highly stressed to completely chilled.

Greeted by my quiet, yet friendly therapist I was guided to my treatment room – with ensuite bathroom no less – and left to prepare for my 90 minute GoBali Treatment. Set against a backdrop of gentle waterfalls, the treatment room had traditional Balinese music softly playing; and had me quickly dreaming of the warm, sun drenched island of Bali.

The 60 minute massage was super relaxing and just what I needed! Firm pressure worked out the knots that had settled deep between my shoulder blades and helped to restore a sense of relaxation to my overly tight upper back muscles. The massage oil was a blend of lavender and lemongrass and was applied so liberally I didn’t need to moisturize for days afterwards – not to mention the fact I just about slid out of the spa!

The final half hour of the treatment was spent with my therapist applying a lovely aloe and cem-ceman oil to my hair and applying gentle acupressure to my scalp. The accompanying neck and shoulder massage sent me over the edge into a state of complete bliss, so much so that my therapist found it somewhat difficult to rouse me from my massage-induced slumber to give me my hot cup of tea!

The only downside? Besides having to leave and walk back into the bustle of Scotts Road, was that my hair, whilst lovely and moisturized, was incredibly oily afterwards and just a little bit scary looking. Best to bring a hair tie and a brush with you mama so you can tie it back before you leave.

The GoBali! Treatment is available at the Damai Spa from the 1st of June until the 31st of August and is 90 minutes of pure bliss. Treatment costs SGD$190++
