A newly-renovated Singapore Montessori School adheres to core principles like mixed-age classrooms and AMI-approved materials, and we’ve got all the deets, mama!
All Montessori schools are not created equal, mama. As we’ve mentioned in our Ultimate Guide to Montessori in Singapore, many schools here carry the Montessori name without embodying core principles like mixed-age classrooms and the use of classic Montessori classroom materials. Which is precisely why our ears perked up when we heard about Raffles Montessori Kindergarten (Aljunied)!
Raffles runs a full Montessori programme with traditional mixed-age classrooms (the benefit being that younger children learn advanced lessons from their peers, and the older kids’ learnings are reinforced as they teach the younger ones) and a curriculum approved by Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). The prepared classroom environment also has specialised, AMI-approved educational materials.
The centre has just been beautifully renovated, with light-filled classrooms and designated learning spaces for music and art. It’s also super conveniently located, only a 3-minute walk from Aljunied MRT and just off the PIE and Nicoll Highway for parents who drive.
As at any true Montessori school, learning is self-directed and child-led at the child’s own pace, which cultivates independence and helps promote executive function. Teachers’ main role is to act as a guide to help scaffold children’s learning.
School leadership is another huge selling point for Raffles Montessori: the school’s Directress has over 10 years’ teaching experience, while the management team is led by graduates of Harvard University and Boston College in the United States.
On top of all that, Raffles Montessori Kindergarten has a strong Mandarin immersion programme in which children are exposed to both English and Mandarin from two co-teachers who are each native speakers in their respective language. Kiddos even have both English and Mandarin circle time each day to help them appreciate both languages equally through stories, songs, dance, themed talks and social interactions.
Not sure if your little one’s ready for school yet, mama? Raffles offers both the traditional Children’s House setting for kids ages 3 to 6, along with a Toddler Community Club for ages 18 months up to 3 years old. Both programmes also feature morning, extended day, and full day schedules that help cater to you and your child’s needs.
Raffles Montessori Kindergarten (Aljunied) will be hosting an open day to celebrate their new space on Saturday August 27, from 10am to 2pm. Why not stop by to see the beautiful new environment for yourself? You can also call the school on (+65) 6745 2722 to arrange a personal school tour.
Singapore is filled with wonderful learning options, but we’re always happy to find out about a new one!
