Galle, which is about a 2-hour drive from Colombo, is famous for its 16th century fort, historic architecture, and stylish blend of cafes, boutiques, and hip hotels. It’s also convenient for day trips to Udawalawe National Park or whale watching tours.
A bit further up the coast, head to Kosgoda to check out the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project, where you can see adorable baby hatchlings released into the sea, and learn more about efforts to protect endangered sea turtles.
