We always cheer when we hear about new baby classes in Singapore, particularly when they’ve got the pedigree and proven track record of Music Together, a US-based early childhood music and movement class that’s been going strong for 32 years and is now taught in 40 countries around the world.
Each weekly session comprises 45 minutes of singing, dancing, and playing songs that range from lullabies to boisterous jam sessions with child-friendly percussion instruments (a definite highlight). Developed in line with the principles and approaches of Reggio-Emilia and Montessori, Music Together is a structured 10-week curriculum based on decades of research, with all classes play-based, child-led and mixed-age (following the Montessori theory that older children learn empathy and model behavior, while younger kids take cues from the older ones, plus it’s just a more realistic family environment!). Over the course of the class, well-trained teachers take children and caregivers through a variety of music, tonalities, meters, and rhythms, supplemented with high-quality songbooks and recordings to continue the music-making at home. This is a wonderful class that siblings can attend together, and is fully inclusive of all developmental stages and learning styles.
Enjoy 55% off your trial class and pay just $18 (U.P. $40). Sassy Mamas will also get a free Music Together storyboard book and will enjoy two additional FREE classes when you sign up for a 10-week term (use promo code SASSYMT). While stocks last; terms and conditions apply.

We’ve been looking forward to the arrival of this car seat at Sassy Mama, and were thrilled to get to try one out! It’s super easy to unfold and put into a car (we’d say it stands up to its claim that the hifold can be set up and ready to use in under ten seconds), and only a bit more fiddly to fold back down again.
We’ve been testing it as a portable car seat for use in taxis for a 3-year-old, but it’s also super useful for those who own their own car but don’t want a bulky car seat permanently occupying a seat. It fits three across in the back seat of a car (as long as there are lap and shoulder seat belts for all three seats), making this a good option for larger families. Certified for use in the EU and US, the hifold is fab for families who travel back home with young kids as it can be used in hire cars or grandparents’ cars. The hifold is suitable for kids weighing 15 – 45kg and 90 – 150cm in height.
It’s a bit bulky to carry around if you’re using it regularly in taxis (weighing 4.5kg), but especially if you’ve got somewhere to put it at the other end of the trip then it’s an excellent option for that awkward age when they’ve outgrown the Cosco Scenera or Urban Kanga but aren’t quite ready for the RideSafer Vest. And knowing that your little one is infinitely safer in a seat like this is worth a bit of hassle!

As we recently mentioned in one of our most popular Facebook posts ever (guess the East Coast really was starved for a great brunch spot!), PS.Cafe has just opened its eighth branch, PS.Cafe by the Sea at East Coast Park! We love the beachy feel of floor-to-ceiling windows and stellar water views, which are paired with a special emphasis on seafood (including new and exclusive dishes like Chargrilled Octopus and Chili Crab & Prawn).
This is also the first time that PS.Cafe is offering a dedicated kids’ menu for children under 12, with kid-friendly faves like Spaghetti Bolognese, Grilled Ham & Cheese Toasties, and a Mini Pancake Stack, all priced from $12-$14 and including a free bowl of soft serve ice cream. To our great delight, there’s also a special weekend brunch menu available Saturdays and Sunday from 9:30am-4pm. We hear reservations are a must!

We’ve told you before how much we love the various running programs suitable for all abilities by Momentum Bootcamps; well, kiddos are no exception! Every so often they’ll put on a special kids’ running program, and the next one has been slated for January 19, 2020. “Speed & Agility for Kids” is a high-energy Sunday afternoon session for kids ages 6-12 that will include jumping and running competitions. Kids can expect to sweat and smile while most of all having a super fun time. And not to worry, Momentum didn’t forget about you, mama: whilst the kiddos are getting the wiggles out they’ve prepared a FREE self-led running track workout for the parents in attendance!
“Speed & Agility for Kids” is happening on Sunday 19 January from 4-5:15pm at Evans Road CCAB (21 Evans Road across from Jacob Ballas). Tickets are $40 per child; click here for more deets and to book!
We were super psyched when we heard that legendary American “fine casual” chain Shake Shack was finally coming to Singapore last year…and a bit less thrilled when we heard it’d be located all the way out at the airport. (Not that Jewel’s myriad dining options aren’t totally amazing!)
But we did a little happy dance this week when we heard that Shake Shack is opening a second location in the city centre with a brand new spot in a heritage building on lovely Neil Road! You’ll find classic menu items like the 100% all-natural Angus beef burger, flat-top beef hot dogs, frozen custard, crinkle-cut fries, craft beer, and of course some yummy milkshakes. We are officially drooling. Is it 2020 yet?
Shake Shack will open in Q1 2020 at 89 Neil Road, Singapore 088849
Did you have major concert envy after half your friends attended the U2 concerts this past weekend and broadcast every second on Instagram (or was that just us)? If so, rest assured that there are plenty of other big acts coming to Singapore in the first part of 2020, including a few just-announced shows. Whether you love folk, pop, alternative or rap music (yes, rap music!), mark your calendars for (or alert Santa to) the following, mamas:
- Bon Iver on January 17 at The Star Theatre
- Pentatonix on February 11 at The Star Theatre
- Green Day on March 8 at Singapore Indoor Stadium
- Hydeout Festival (featuring Gucci Mane, A$AP Rocky, Rita Ora & others) on two weekends in April (10-11, 17-18) at Gardens by the Bay

Whoa! Where did that last decade go?! If you’ve had kids over the last 10 years, we have a feeling your musical choices have probably changed quite a bit (sadly Nursery Rhymes was far and away our most-played album of 2019). Anyway, if you have a Spotify account, we highly recommend checking out Spotify Wrapped, which provides a colorful visualisation of your year’s musical choices. You’ll even get a personalized playlist that shows your Top 100 songs of 2019. Even cooler, Spotify has mashed together all of its data from the past decade to share trends in the top artists, albums, and most streamed songs (Post Malone? Really?).
